From here it is possible to travel by ferry to the Cozumel Island, where you will find beautiful beaches and seafood restaurants. Akumal is a small community with numerous natural attractions for adventurous tourists. Its name means “place of turtles” due to the population of these species that inhabits its waters. The nearby reefs, the lagoon Yalkú, and some cenotes to the Northwest of the population are Ideal for snorkeling, diving, or swimming. To the South you can find the cave Aktun Chén, with formations of stalactites and a cenote in its interior.
Tulum is a famous archaeological site on the shores of the Caribbean Sea, surrounded by incredible turquoise waters. It was an old fort and port of the Mayan civilization, where you will now find many restaurants and shops, as well as many activities on the beach. Approximately 40 km away from Tulum, Coba is located, another important Mayan archaeological site where you can find the highest pyramid of the Mayan Riviera: Nohuch Mul, with 40 meters of height. From its top you can get the best panoramic views of the área, although it is a challenge that perhaps only the intrepid ones will want to assume.
The Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve, meaning “Gate of Heaven”, is a protected natural area declared World Heritage by Unesco in 1987. It has wide white beaches, small bays, and mangroves, with different types of fauna, as well as 23 archaeological sites, including Muyil and Tampak.
